TEMPERATURE REGULATORS
TRAC STYLE 'A' (FAILSAFE) TEMPERATURE REGULATOR The TRAC Style ‘A’ (Failsafe) temperature regulator is a self sensing and self actuated temperature regulating valve which will automatically control liquid or steam flow through the valve in response to changes in the temperature of the controlling medium. The regulating valve requires no external source of power to operate the valve or to detect changes in the temperature of the controlling medium. The valve can be set to control at any temperature within the limits of the temperature range stamped on the nameplate. The standard ranges for Style ‘A’ (Failsafe) valves are provided with a 30 deg.F adjustable temperature span. Failsafe is a term invoked by the military specification to differentiate this type of equipment from the standard (non-failsafe) design. It describes the failure mode which the system designer must consider as safest for the system. For most applications where the TRAC Style ‘A’ (Failsafe) Temperature regulator is specified, the valve is intended to fail cold. The failsafe temperature regulator will fail in the full open or full closed position (depending on valve action) with no means to adjust the valve to an intermediary position. If adjustment to an intermediate position after thermostatic element failure is a system requirement, then consider the TRAC Style ‘B’ temperature regulator TRAC STYLE ‘A’ (FAILSAFE) VALVE ACTION: DIRECT ACTING: Direct acting valves are used for heating services where a rise in temperature tends to close the valve. A direct acting valve is generally used for controlling the temperature of any steam heated systems such as hot water tanks, steam tables, sterilizing equipment, etc… REVERSE ACTING: Reverse acting valves are used for cooling services where a rise in temperature tends to open the valve. A reverse acting valve is generally used for controlling the temperature of cooling system recirculating lines, heat exchangers, environmental air cooling, etc… For instruction on replacement of a TRAC Style ‘A’ thermostatic element: For detailed maintenance instructions for Navy shipboard installations:
TRAC STYLE 'B' TEMPERATURE REGULATOR The TRAC Style ‘B’ temperature regulator is a self sensing and self actuated temperature regulating valve which will automatically control liquid or steam flow through the valve in response to changes in the temperature of the controlling medium. The regulating valve requires no external source of power to operate the valve or to detect changes in the temperature of the controlling medium. The valve can be set to control at any temperature within the limits of the temperature range stamped on the nameplate. The standard ranges for Style ‘B’ valves are provided with a 40 deg.F adjustable temperature span. For most applications where the TRAC Style ‘B’ temperature regulator is specified, the system designer considers it acceptable for the valve to fail hot with means for the operator to be able to adjust the valve to any intermediate valve position. The manual override feature is furnished on all TRAC Style ‘B’ production valves. It provides for uninterrupted service in the event that the thermostatic element fails in operation. By adjusting the manual override wheel, the operator can modulate the valve to any position between full open and full closed. TRAC STYLE ‘B’ VALVE ACTION: REVERSE ACTING: Reverse acting valves are used for cooling services where a rise in temperature tends to open the valve. A reverse acting valve is generally used for controlling the temperature of cooling system recirculating lines, heat exchangers, environmental air cooling, etc… THREE WAY: 3-Way valves are used for mixing hot and cold liquids to deliver liquid to the outlet at a predetermined temperature, or to divert the inlet flow of liquid to a heat exchanger or bypass based on the controlling condition. For instruction on replacement of a TRAC Style ‘B’ thermostatic element: For detailed maintenance instructions for Navy shipboard installations:
TRAC STYLE 'D' TEMPERATURE REGULATOR The TRAC Style ‘D’ temperature regulator is a pneumatic actuated temperature regulator. This type of regulator requires an external source of compressed air controlled by a temperature pilot. The Style ‘D’ valve is designed to be compatible with virtually any manufacturer’s temperature pilot (controller). TRAC Regulator does provide temperature pilots, available in direct acting (rising bulb temperature increases control pressure) and reverse acting (rising bulb temperature decreases control pressure) The TRAC Style ‘D’ temperature regulator is basically a modification to the Style ‘B’ regulator, where an air signal is introduced into the bellows to control valve action. The manual override feature is furnished on all Style ‘D’ production valves. It provides for uninterrupted service in the event that the bellows fails in operation. By adjusting the manual override wheel, the operator can modulate the valve to any position between full open and The TRAC Style ‘D’ Temperature regulator is available in two air signal ranges (1/2- 6 psig and 5-15 psig) and three basic types of valve action: REVERSE ACTING: Reverse acting valves are used for cooling services where a rise in temperature tends to open the valve. TRAC STYLE 'P' TEMPERATURE REGULATOR The TRAC Style ‘P’ (electrically failsafe) temperature regulator is a pilot operated valve specifically designed to control steam supply to shipboard instantaneous heater systems. The valve will automatically regulate steam flow to the heater coil in response to changes in hot water temperature at the heater outlet. The standard range for Style ‘P’ valve is 120-180 deg.F. Other ranges are available and are provided with a 60 deg.F adjustable temperature span. To prevent overheating upon failure of the thermostatic element, the valve is provided with an electrically operated safety feature. A solenoid valve is incorporated on the inlet side pilot tube line. The solenoid provided is normally closed. In order to operate the temperature regulator the solenoid valve must be energized. Upon failure of the thermostatic element, loss of electric current to the solenoid, or if any other valve malfunction causes the hot water outlet temperature to overheat - the solenoid valve will close, shutting off inlet pressure to the valve piston, and thereby closing the temperature regulating valve. The Style ‘P’ (electrically failsafe) temperature regulator is manufactured in accordance with the following specification: For more information on the TRAC Style ‘P’ product line: For instruction on replacement of a TRAC Style ‘P’ thermostatic element: For detailed maintenance instructions for the TRAC Style ‘P’ product line:
